Thunder monsters are generally LIGHT Attribute, although there is a minority that are WIND or EARTH Attribute. Thunder monsters usually represent beings with energy powers, those that use or make use of electricity, or beings that are made of pure energy. Many Thunder-Type card effects and support cards focus upon destroying the opponent's monsters by effect. The "Batteryman" archetype is purely composed of Thunder-Type monsters, as is the "Watt" archetype.

Some of the more notable ones include "The Creator", "Mist Wurm", "Hamon, Lord of Striking Thunder", "Zaborg the Thunder Monarch","Thunder King Rai-Oh", "Lightning Punisher" and "Mist Valley Thunder Lord".

"Thunder Dragon" is also a well-known Thunder-Type monster, for its Deck-thinning abilities and for his Fusion Monster counterpart, "Twin-Headed Thunder Dragon".

Support cards include "Electro-Whip", "Judgment of Thunder" "Mountain", "Umi", and "Makiu, the Magical Mist".
