Type (
In the North American English version of Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories, Type is referred to as Class, abbreviated to Cl. This is changed to Type and Tp respectively in the European English version.[note 1]

The "manga" column only refers to Duel Monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! R, and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX series.
The "DDM" column refers to the real-world, manga and video-game versions of Dungeon Dice Monsters.

Non-game Types
- Human (
人 間 Ningen) is the Type used for "Everyone's King", a card appearing in a fantasy Carly Carmine had in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime. It was released as a non-game card in the OCG/TCG, where it maintained this Type. - Charisma (カリスマ Karisuma) is a Type used as a joke on "Charisma Token".
- ? is used on some Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links Token cards to indicate the Token's Type is variable. (See also: List of ?-Type monsters)
- In the Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS anime, the Newspaper Club used a card-printing machine to create their own cards with their own original Types and Attributes. The Types included:
- Business (ビジネス Bijinesu) for "The★Luke Division Manager"
- Newspaper (新聞 Shinbun) for "Masa on the Mic" and "Cub the Picture Popping Paparazzi"
- Swindler (詐欺 Sagi) for "Tracker the Ultimate Treasure Hunter"
- Son (息子 Musuko) for "Good Yosh the Overcrusher"
- Swirls (グルグル Guruguru) for "Adorable Newbie Swirls"
Card text
In the OCG and TCG, when a Type is mentioned in a card text, initially it was suffixed with "-Type". From Starter Deck: Link Strike onward, the "-Type" suffix was removed. However, its OCG Starter Deck 2017 retains the suffix in both Japanese and Korean.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links uses "-Type" in most cards' texts, even in texts that never included it in the OCG/TCG.
The international release of Yu-Gi-Oh! RUSH DUEL: Dawn of the Battle Royale!! suffixes type names with "Type" (without the hyphen) in card texts, including the Normal Monster flavor text of "Summoned Skull".
Rush Duel
There are 29 different Types in Yu-Gi-Oh! Rush Duel; they include all Types from the OCG/TCG, except for Illusion, Divine-Beast and Creator God.
Five of these types (all newly-added ones) are exclusive to certain Fusion Monsters, which are thematically fusions of other Types:
- Celestial Warrior (Warrior + Fairy)
- Cyborg (Machine + non-Machine)
- High Dragon (Dragon + Dragon)
- Magical Knight (Spellcaster + non-Spellcaster)
- Omega Psychic (Psychic + Psychic)
Type line
On cards, the Type line is the first line in the lore/effect box, printed above the card text. This line lists the monster's Type, any Abilities, and any other monster types such as Tuner, Pendulum, or Effect.
