Dinosaur monsters are a type of monster that primarily rely on brute strength, and sometimes their Card Effects, to help a duelist prevail in a Duel. There are many high-level Dinosaur-Types, so the general strategy for them is to Special Summon their high-level monsters as quickly and easily as possible using cards like "Hunting Instinct" or "Big Evolution Pill" to overpower the opponent's weaker monsters before they have a chance to defend themselves. Dinosaurs are predominantly EARTH-Attribute monsters (those that are or resemble Pterosaurs are WIND, with exception of Jurrac Ptera), but the release of the Jurrac Archetype has lead to a surge of FIRE Dinosaurs.
+
Older Dinosaur supports are often also cross-supports of Reptile type, referencing the biological connections between Reptiles and Dinosaurs in real life. Some newer Dinosaur supports are cross-support with the Dragon, Sea Serpent and Wyrm types; this is likely due to all four types containing the kanji character ryuu 竜 ("dragon") in Japanese.

Short of extremely powerful Nomi monsters, high-level Fusion Monsters, or Dragons, Dinosaurs are second to none in terms of overwhelming brute force. They possess the only monster that completely breaks the rule of 3000 ATK, "Super Conductor Tyranno", their Field Spell Card Jurassic World grants a higher ATK and DEF bonus than any other for specific monster types, and they have recently been issued Fossil Dig a Spell Card that can add any Level 6 or lower Dinosaur from the Deck to the Hand. Unlike other monster types which run the risk of being useless in the hand if the deck is too top-heavy with high-level monsters, Dinosaurs have numerous options of getting around tribute requirements for summoning high-level monsters from their hand.
+
In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom, Dinosaur monsters are lumped together with Dragon monsters, and are treated as the latter Type.

A lot of Dinosaur-Type monsters have high ATK like "Frostosaurus", "Super Conductor Tyranno", "Black Tyranno", "Super-Ancient Dinobeast", "Dark Driceratops", "Ultimate Tyranno", the TCG/OCG Synchro Monster - "Jurrac Giganoto, Jurrac Velphito and Jurrac Meteor".  One unique Dinosaur, Tyranno Infinity, gains a massive 1000 ATK boost for each removed from play Dinosaur, making Dinosaurs viable even against the debilitating effects of an opponent using Macro Cosmos and related cards. Tyranno Infinity also works extremely well with Survival Instinct, another support card.

A new sub-archetype of monsters, Evoldar monsters that belong to the Evol archetype, are Dinosaurs that have so far been released in the OCG. They primarily 'evolve' from Reptile-type Evoldo monsters (meaning they are Special Summoned by their effects), having their effects activate as they do. For Example, if Evoldar Diplodocus 'evolved' from a reptile-type Evoldo, it can destroy an opponent's Spell/Trap card. The Dinosaur-type Evoldars are primarily used as Xyz Materials for the Xyz Summon of Dragon-type Evolkaiser monsters.

Dinosaur Beatdown Decks focus on swarming the field with Dinosaur creatures, summoning big beat-sticks like Ultimate Tyranno by bypassing tribute requirements with Big Evolution Pill, a combination of Gilasaurus and Hunting Instinct then using various power-boosting and Dinosaur-support cards. Another possible strategy focus on quickly dispatching Dinosaurs to the Graveyard then removing them from play (ex. Survival Instinct) to boost Tyranno Infinity and move in for a quick-kill. Dinosaur-type monsters are also known for their high ATK points that can overpower other deck types quickly if you play your cards right. It is highly recommended to bring cards to destroy your opponents back field. Dimensional Fissure is highly recommended, due to it's remove from play effect, as it cripples many decks, among the popular are Blackwings, Lightsworns, Zombies, Infernity, and many other decks that rely in their graveyard for their card effects. Royal Decree or Tyrant's Temper are cards that will help in protecting your Dinosaur's from any trap cards, and Solidarity grants a much needed these decks need, as many Dinosaur decks are strongly built on their type, and optional modifications can be made by adding in equip spell cards for further damage. These cards include Junk Barrage, Big Bang Shot (due to the fact that It grants a pierce effect, and removes from play the monster when removed from the field), Megamorph, and other equip spell cards.

Another Dinosaur build  build revolves around using the field spell Mausoleum of the Emperor to pay life points to summon high level Dinosaur monsters to quickly overrun the opponent's weak monster's, and use Royal Decree to shut down all trap cards on the field. Then, the Dinosaur player can either use A.Big Evolution Pill to tribute the summoned Dinosaur, and normal summon Dinosaur type monsters without tributing! or B. recover life points via Draining Shield, Sebek's Blessing, Poison of the Old Man and other cards to continue abusing the effect of Mausoleum of the Emperor to summon more Dinosaur monsters.
+
;Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL
The best dinosaur monster for the summon of Mausoleum is Jurrac Titano. His effect by itself allows him to become immune to target effects from monster cards, and trap cards that the opponent has up their sleeve.

Dinosaur decks have a couple of search cards, one of the most used ones being the spell card released in the set Ancient Prophecy, Fossil Dig. This card allows the search of any level 6 or lower Dinosaur type monster, and can quickly give you Tyranno Infinity. Anothe search card tht Dinosaurs have is Miracle Jurassic Egg, which allows the player the dispatch counters on the egg, for the quick summon of another Dinosaur monster from the deck. Babycerasaurus is another search card that combos brilliantly with Torrential Tribute, or Dark Hole.

Strengths
Removal Power: Dimensional Fissure removes any monster instead of sending it to the grave, bypassing effects such as Dandylion, and ANY other card that says "and sent to the graveyard", posing an enormous threat to MANY decks that rely on their graveyard. Removal cards such as Heavy Storm(Traditional Format) Mystical Space Typhoon, Cold Wave( Traditional Format) Dust Tornado, and other cards to remove opponent's spells or traps, but this wont be necessary due to the additions of Royal Decree, or Tyrant's Temper.

Field Control: Note that field control is not permanent, and that the opponent will try to destroy any hight level Dinosaur monsters you have summoned. Royal Decree, and Tyrant's Temper, are cards that are necessary for the player to win the duel. Hyper Hammerhead will help you remove an opponent's monster, but It will not work against cards like Ally of Justice Catastor, Miracle Jurassic Egg can stall and give you some time to assemble your field control, due to it's 2000 Def status, Seismic Shockwave, which prevents the opponent from using most of their S/T zones. Another great addition would be the trap card Xing Zhen Hu, which stops the opponent from using 2 set Spell or Trap cards, removing any threats for the summoning of your Dinosaur monsters, or their attacks. Tail Swipe is great for direct attacks. And the best card to use against a synchro deck would be Grave of the Super Ancient Organism, which would shut down their strategies quickly, but be careful of it's use, because then you cant special summon any Dinosaur Type monsters that are level 6 or higher. Use cards like Divine Wrath, and Forbidden Chalice to protect yourself from dangerous monster card effects like Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter, Ally of Justice Catastor, or simply a Marshmallon, or Spirit Reaper, which prevents the duelist from progressing their offense.

Damage Inflicting: Using cards like Ceasefire,Nightmare Wheel, Hinotama, and the Super Conductor Tyranno/Black Ptera comination, inflict damage to the opponent. This combination is best used when you cannot attack your opponent when they use cards like Gravity Bind, Level Limit - Area B, Messenger of Peace, or other stall cards the opponent may use. Other essential additions would be Junk Barrage, Big Bang Shot, and other power boosting equip spell cards.

Ultimate Conductor Tyranno
"Ultimate Conductor Tyranno", a Dinosaur monster.

Dinosaur (Japanese: きょうりゅう Kyōryū) is a Type of Monster Card. It debuted in Vol.1 in the OCG, Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon in the TCG, and Deck Mod Pack: Hyperspeed Rush Road!! in Rush Duel.

Overview[edit]

Dinosaur monsters are aesthetically themed after their historical namesake, as well as other prehistoric beasts like mammoths, ichthyosaurs, and pterosaurs. Some, such as "Uraby" and "Megazowler" have more down-to-earth design, while other such as "Miscellaneousaurus", and "Hydrogeddon" are more fantastical. Dinosaur monsters are predominantly EARTH or FIRE, but do have members from all Attributes in the game aside from DIVINE.

Gameplay-wise, Dinosaurs' play style typically revolve around using high-ATK monsters and offensive Monster Effects, Special Summoning high-Level Main Deck monsters, and effects that destroy friendly Dinosaurs for advantage, or advantageous effects that trigger from being destroyed by friendly cards. Due to a large number of generic Dinosaur supports, the type is also notable for allowing a great degree of hybridization between various Dinosaur themes.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom, Dinosaur monsters are lumped together with Dragon monsters, and are treated as the latter Type.
