Winged Beast (鳥獣族 Chōjū-zoku "Bird Beast Tribe") monsters represent creatures of flight such as birds or bats. The "Harpie" archetype, one of the most renowned, is comprised primarily of Winged Beasts. The "Blackwing" archetype is composed of DARK Winged Beast-Type monsters that were first released in Crimson Crisis, with further support in Raging Battle and Ancient Prophecy. Winged Beasts commonly have effects related to removing cards from the field, especially cards in the Spell & Trap Card Zone, although some are designed instead to take advantage of an opponent without any cards in their Spell & Trap Card Zone once it has been cleared by the others. One fine example of a card making use of Winged Beast monsters is "Icarus Attack", being extremely popular in the aforementioned "Blackwing" decks. There is also another powerful archetype, the "Dragunitys", which team up with Dragons in order to form "Dragunity Knights".

Winged Beast type usually represent creatures of flight, such as birds or bats, as well as other similar mythical creatures, such as harpy, griffin, and other winged creatures that does not fall under the Dragon, Fiend, or Fairy category. Some monsters who have a power of wind manipulation but does not have a wing (such as "Raiza the Storm Monarch") also falls under this category. The majority of Winged Beast monsters are WIND, but there are also several DARK Winged Beast archetypes, such as "Blackwing" and "Raidraptor".

Historically, Winged Beast monsters (especially the lower-Level ones) usually have relatively low stats compared to the other Types, but is mostly compensated by its non-destruction removal effects. Typically with their bouncing effect to return the opponent's card to their hand and/or extra deck. Low-Level Winged Beasts were mostly capable at swarming the field or aiding its High-Level counterparts, while High-Level Winged Beast either have a strong protection (such as being immune to card effects) or a powerful removal effect.

 +
Additionally, Winged Beast often shared their support with the Beast and Beast-Warrior types, thus allow some hybridization between the three Types. This is most evident thanks to the "Tri-Brigade" and "Fire King" archetypes.

Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty
"Simorgh, Bird of Sovereignty", a Winged Beast monster.

Winged Beast (ちょうじゅう Chōjū, lit. "Bird Beast") is a Type of monster. It first debuted with the game's first booster in both the OCG (Vol.1) and TCG (Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon).

In Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom, Winged Beasts are treated as Beast Monsters.

Overview[edit]

Additionally, Winged Beast often shared their support with the Beast and Beast-Warrior types, thus allow some hybridization between the three Types. This is most evident thanks to the "Tri-Brigade" and "Fire King" archetypes.
