Quick Effect (誘発即時効果, Yūhatsu Sokuji Kōka; previously known as Multi-Trigger Effect in the TCG) is the only Monster Effect that are Spell Speed 2. It is any monster effect that could be activated during Summon negation window, or could be chained "in response" to another activation.

Monsters effects that negate the activations or the Summons are all Quick Effects. Monsters that have other Quick Effects usually have: "This effect can be activated during either player's turn", or something similar in its card text. The card rulings may also indicate if the effect it has is a Quick Effect or not.

A Quick Effect, formerly called a Multi-Trigger Effect, and called an Immediate Trigger Effect (誘発即時効果 Yūhatsu Sokuji Kōka) in the OCG, is a type of monster effect that is Spell Speed 2 (and is the only Spell Speed 2 monster effect).

Following the Problem-Solving Card Text, any effect that has "During either player's/your opponent's turn:" or similar text, is a Quick Effect. Some monsters like "Swift Scarecrow" may indicate in its text that the effect is a Quick Effect.

It is the only type of monster effect that can be activated in Summon negation window, and the only one that can be chained to another activation (excluding SEGOC). As such, monsters effects that negate the activation or Summon of something are all Quick Effects.

Most Quick Effects can be activated more than once in a chain, while some others cannot, such as "Light and Darkness Dragon", because such specific cards have rulings stating that they can only activate once per chain.
+
For cards with Problem-Solving Card Text (PSCT), starting in Maximum Crisis: Special Edition, Quick Effects are noted by mention of "(Quick Effect)" in the text. Prior to Maximum Crisis: Special Edition, for cards with PSCT, Quick Effects are normally noted by "During either player's [turn/Phase/Step]" in the activation timing, or "(this is a Quick Effect)" at the end of the effect if that wording is not applicable.

*Example #1: "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" exists on the field, your opponent activates "Fissure" as Chain Link 1. "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8"'s optional effect activates as Chain Link 2, trying to negate "Fissure". Your opponent replies by chaining "Book of Moon" as Chain Link 3, targeting Horus. Then, you can activate the effect of "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" as Chain Link 4, negating "Book of Moon.
+
For cards without PSCT, Quick Effects are more difficult to identify. They can be identified by text which indicates the same timing as the PSCT standard. Some Quick Effects can only be determined to be that way due to rulings.
Since chains resolve backwards, the chain would resolve as follows:

*Chain Link 4: "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" Negates "Book of Moon".

*Chain Link 3: "Book of Moon" Resolves without effect.

*Chain Link 2: "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" Negates "Fissure".

*Chain Link 1: "Fissure" Resolves without effect.

 +
The same Quick Effect can be activated multiple times during the same chain as long as it cannot chain to itself. Quick Effects with the ability to chain to themselves may only be used multiple times per chain when they have an activation cost they can continue to pay.

*Example #2: "Light and Darkness Dragon" exists on the field and your opponent activates "Fissure" as Chain Link 1. "Light and Darkness Dragon"'s effect activates as Chain Link 2 to "Fissure". Your opponent replies by chaining "Book of Moon" as Chain Link 3, but because "Light and Darkness Dragon" has a ruling stating that it cannot be used more than once in a chain, it cannot negate "Book of Moon"'s activation.

Chain example
In this scenario, the following would happen:
+
The player controls a face-up "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8", and it is currently the opponent's Main Phase 1.
*Chain Link 3: "Book of Moon" resolves, flipping "Light and Darkness Dragon" into face-down defense position.
+
*Chain Link 1: The opponent activates "Fissure".
*Chain Link 2: "Light and Darkness Dragon" Negates "Fissure".
+
*Chain Link 2: The player Chains "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8"'s effect to negate its activation and destroy "Fissure".
*Chain Link 1: "Fissure" Resolves without effect.
+
*Chain Link 3: The opponent Chains "Book of Moon", targeting "Horus".
NOTE: "Light and Darkness Dragon" Negates "Fissure" even though it is flipped face-down, since "Light and Darkness Dragon"'s effect does not require "Light and Darkness Dragon" to be face up on the field for it to resolve.
+
*Chain Link 4: The player Chains "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8"'s effect to negate its activation and destroy "Book of Moon.
 +
Since Chains resolve backwards, this Chain would resolve as follows:
 +
*Chain Link 4: "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" negates and destroys "Book of Moon".
 +
*Chain Link 3: "Book of Moon" does not resolve.
 +
*Chain Link 2: "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8" negates and destroys "Fissure".
 +
*Chain Link 1: "Fissure" does not resolve.

There is no such thing as a Trigger Quick Effect, and the term "Multi Trigger Quick Effect" is not currently used anymore. Multi Trigger effects have since been renamed to "Quick Effects".

Effect Veiler
"Effect Veiler", a card with a Quick Effect.

It is the only type of monster effect that can be activated in Summon negation window, and the only one that can be chained to another activation (excluding SEGOC). As such, monsters effects that negate the activation or Summon of something are all Quick Effects.

For cards without PSCT, Quick Effects are more difficult to identify. They can be identified by text which indicates the same timing as the PSCT standard. Some Quick Effects can only be determined to be that way due to rulings.

The same Quick Effect can be activated multiple times during the same chain as long as it cannot chain to itself. Quick Effects with the ability to chain to themselves may only be used multiple times per chain when they have an activation cost they can continue to pay.

Chain example[edit]

The player controls a face-up "Horus the Black Flame Dragon LV8", and it is currently the opponent's Main Phase 1.

Since Chains resolve backwards, this Chain would resolve as follows:
