Spellcasters usually represent beings that control magic or some other mystical force, such as witches and mages. While the Spellcaster type isn't well supported as a whole, the majority of these creatures contain effects and can be very versatile Monsters, used often with support of Spell Cards. Many of the most well-known and powerful monster cards are Spellcasters. Also, most of the currently Forbidden or Limited monster cards are Spellcasters, including "Dark Magician of Chaos", "Magician of Faith", "Breaker the Magical Warrior", "Chaos Sorcerer", "Thousand-Eyes Restrict", "Witch of the Black Forest", and "Magical Scientist".

The Spellcaster's Commmand deck focuses heavily on bringing out and holding as many spell counters on the field so that any effect monster, mostly spellcaster's, can use their effect immediately. The advantage to the deck is mainly due to field card Magical Citadel of Endymion which produces spell counters for each activated spell card and saves destroyed spell counters from cards that contained spell counter on the field. The structure deck also includes good support cards for bringing out more spell counters like Spell Power Grasp, Tower of Babel, and Pitch-Black Power Stone. Previously before the new field spell card was released, Pitch-Black Power Stone was the only means of getting more then one spell counter on to the field from one card in one or two turns, but now the field card acts like a bank and lets players substitute the cost of spell counter from a card on the field to the new Field Spell Card, but the only draw back is you can only manually do one cost per turn as the card effects read. There are several cards that can bypass this rule which include Anti-Spell , Disenchanter and Defender, The Magical Knight, where when they activate their effect it takes spell counters off the field by its self.
