Barbara

Barbara, also called Barb for short in the English version, is a resident from Crash Town.

Biography

Barbara sends a letter to Yusei Fudo, requesting that he save his former friend Kalin Kessler. As Yusei arrives in Crashtown, he is challenged to a duel by three individuals. Barbara, however, stops the duel - stating that such a duel is prohibited by the town's rules (in the English dub, she states that it was not the time for Yusei to duel). She then reveals to Yusei that she sent the letter requesting his help.

Outside, Barbara begins to explain to him about the town's horrific settlement. As they both observe as the sun is setting down, two rival gangs confront each other, one belonging to Malcolm, and the other belonging to Radley. Barbara states that when the sun sets the two gangs officially duel.

Yusei then notices Kalin looking and acting different, to which that Barbara explains the reason for her wanting for Yusei to save Kalin. As she states that he has come to that town to die.

Yusei then learns that those who lose a duel in the town are forced to work in a mountain forever. Barbara then states that in order for Yusei to save his friend, he must defeat him in a duel, since it's the only way to be released from Ramon's group, at which time Yusei must take him back, before Kalin is taken into mountains.

After the duel ends, Yusei and Kalin ended up being double-crossed by Barbara, who actually was, in secret, a member of Malcolm's gang. Still later, after Lawton's Turbo Duel with Yusei, Barbara changes loyalties again, and sides with Lawton, double-crossing Malcolm as well. (In the dub version, Barb is Lawton's wife, and had planned this with him from the start.)

Later with complete control over the town but not feeling they have enough workers in the mines, Barbara and Lawton begin having their henchmen duel for their safety. To their shock, Yusei and Kalin return and challenge Lawton to a duel for the town's future. When Lawton's defeat seems certain, Barbara attempts to make Yusei and Kalin forfeit by making two children her hostage. Fortunately, Crow and Jack arrive to save the children and Jack, apparently thinking that Barbara is undeserving of chivalry, punches her. Shortly afterward, Sector Security arrives and starts rounding up Lawton and Barbara's men. Hoping to escape with Lawton, Barbara soon receives a taste of karma when Lawton shows himself even more self-serving than Barbara and ditches her. In the end, Lawton and Barbara are taken into custody.

In Yu-Gi-Oh 2011 Over Nexus, Barbara plays a similar but lesser role and she is not arrested like her anime counterpart, suggesting that either her crime was taken lightly or she has her punishment reduced.
