Yu-Gi-Oh! chapters

13 O'clock Terror!! is the fourty fifth chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga.

This chapter was originally printed in the Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine in Japanese. Its first English release was in the Shonen Jump magazine. It has been reprinted in volume 6 of the tankōbon and volume 4 of the bunkoban.

Anzu and Yugi go on a date to Domino Park. In Anzu's attempts to make the other Yugi appear, she ends up used in one of Playing Card Bomber's dangerous games.

Summary

Before Amusement Park

The story begins with a newspaper that declares "Card Bomber Strikes Again". The Playing Card Bomber is a criminal who announces the places he is going to bomb through the use of playing cards.

Yugi is reading the paper and seems very interested. He is trying to get Anzu's attention, but she seems to be distracted by something. Yugi asks Anzu what is bothering her and she claims that nothing is wrong, but she doesn't want to stand around and read the paper all day.

Amusement Park Water Attractions

The two proceed to go to an amusement park. Yugi is very excited, but then immediately starts wondering if they are on a date. He attempts to ask her but his stuttering is interrupted by the ticket attendant who tells him the ticket he just purchased is for high school seniors and that he might want an elementary school student ticket. Yugi calls the attendant rude for assuming he was an elementary student based on his appearance.

Yugi seems distracted.

Anzu seems a bit embarrassed by Yugi's reaction but quickly shakes it off as Yug] runs up to her and excitedly asks her which ride they should go on. As Anzu thinks about this, Yugi comments on the sun and Anzu decides they should go on the water slide. After they arrive at the bottom of the slide, Anzu suggests they ride it again. Yugi agrees, but from the bottom all the way to the top of the slide he is staggering because of "Anzu's knockout dynamite body".

After the ride, the two are laying in the sun. Anzu believes that she sees the other Yugi but he disappears when Yugi is shot in the face with a water gun. Anzu wants to see the other Yugi so badly that when a guy tries to hit on her she screams that he is a pervert. Unfortunately for her, a bunch of other guys appear to beat the guy up and not the other Yugi.

The Card Bomber appears

Anzu and Yugi go and ride on the other attractions. However, before the "Ultra Spin", Yugi notices that the police are gathered around. It then cuts to the police chief giving the order for everyone to evacuate the park as the Card Bomber's clues point to the park being bombed near the current day and time. After the announcement is made, Anzu goes against Yugi's wishes and runs off, believing this is the perfect time to see the other Yugi.

Yugi finds that Anzu has gotten on the ferris wheel. Much to Yugi's dismay, the police tell him that the ferris wheel is rigged with bombs. Anzu just wants to see the other Yugi so badly that she does not realize the danger that she is in. The Card Bomber wants to play a card game with a Deck of playing cards and the other Yugi steps in, much to Anzu's delight.

"Clock Solitaire" - rules of the game

Picture of the game.
Rules
*52 card Deck
*Make 13 piles of 4 cards shaped like a clock with 13th pile in center.
*First move is to flip top card in center pile
*Place card to its corresponding place on the "clock".
*Draw a card from the top of the deck the previous card was place and repeat.
*When a point has four card's of its number, the clock point reveals when a car explodes. (Not explained)

The game as it is played

The Playing Card Bomber gives the other Yugi the instructions and he begins the game. He has 10 minutes to complete the game before all the cars explode. The game starts off card by card, but eventually goes immediately to the first clock point, #4. The car explodes, which shocks Yugi and the police as the bomber had not explained this rule of the game.

Yugi now realizes that Anzu is in danger as she is in car #3 and 3 of the 4 cards for that point have been matched up. The Card Bomber taunts the other Yugi by asking him if he will be able to stop the game. Car #8 explodes. It is at this point that the other Yugi realizes that the only way to win the game is to complete the pile he started at, pile #13.

Car #2 explodes, the third King is drawn. There are only 20 seconds left, but the next card drawn is not the last King. With under 5 seconds left, the last King is drawn and the passengers are saved. The Other Yugi then tells the police to investigate the passenger in car #13. His reasoning is that car #13 didn't explode when he assembled all the cards as the other cars had. If the Card Bomber was in that car he would be disguised as a hostage and he would be able to see the cards that were completed.

The chapter ends with Anzu grabbing the Other Yugi's arm and exclaiming, "Let's continue with our date!" but he doesn't seem as excited as she is.

Anime adaptations

First series

This chapter is redone in episode 14 of the anime series.

Differences:

  • The episode starts with a scene involving the police and Card Bomber as opposed to Yugi and Anzu. It then goes to Domino High School where Yugi is with all his friends and not just Anzu.
  • The Card Bomber doesn't commit his crimes with playing cards in the anime. He is more of a person that just likes to play "games". This includes quiz questions.
  • In the anime, Miho, Jounouchi and Honda overhear the plans for going to the waterpark and suspect it is a date. They end up going because Miho wants to go as well.
  • Jounouchi comments on Anzu's body in the anime instead of Yugi.
  • The game in the anime is different. In the anime the game requires 13 balloons. You choose a balloon to release and then a corresponding card explodes. The way to win the game is to release a balloon whose color is not represented by a "Flower Clock"
