"The Ties That Bind", titled "Strong Feelings!!" (強い気持ち！！ Tsuyoi Kimochi!!) in the Japanese version, is the 340th chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. In its first English printing, it was numbered as the 62nd chapter of Yu-Gi-Oh! Millennium World. In the 3-in-1 edition, its number was changed to match the original Japanese printing.
Featured Duel: Yugi Mutou vs. Atem
Duel continues from the previous chapter.
Turn 5: Atem
Atem activates the Spell Card "Tricky's Magic 4", paying 1000 Life Points (Atem 4000 → 3000) to split "The Tricky" into a number of copies equal to the number of monsters Yugi controls, but they cannot attack. Yugi controls three monsters ("Red Gadget", "Yellow Gadget", and "Green Gadget"), so Atem Special Summons three "Tricky Tokens" (2000/1200). Atem Sacrifices the three "Tricky Tokens" to Sacrifice Summon "The God of the Obelisk" (4000/4000) in Attack Position. "Obelisk" attacks and destroys "Stronghold the Moving Fortress" (Yugi 3000 → 2000). As "Stronghold" was destroyed, "Red Gadget", "Yellow Gadget", and "Green Gadget" are also destroyed.[note 1]
Turn 7: Dark Yugi
Atem Normal Summons "Big Shield Gardna" in Defense Position. "Obelisk" attacks "Silent Swordsman", but Yugi activates his Set Spell Card "Turn Jump", moving the turn count forward to Atem's Battle Phase three of his turns later. As three of Yugi's Standby Phases are considered to have passed, "Silent Swordsman" gains 500 ATK and 1 LV for each ("Silent Swordsman LV3" 1000 → 2500 ATK). Yugi activates his Set Trap Card "Crumbling Axe", reducing the ATK of "Obelisk" by 500 for each of his turns it was Set ("Obelisk" 4000 → 2500). The attack continues, and "Obelisk" and "Silent Swordsman" are destroyed in a Double KO.
Duel continues in the next chapter.
The following cards appeared in this chapter. Cards in italics debuted here.
- Atem is stated to have Set a card at this point, but his field is later shown to have no Set cards until he Sets another, and his hand size is consistent with him not Setting a card this turn.
