"The Darkness of Death!", titled "Falling into the Deadly Darkness!?" (死の闇に堕つ!? Jigoku no Uta) in the Japanese version, is the 245th chapter of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga. In its first English printing, it was numbered as the 186th chapter of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duelist. In the 3-in-1 edition, its number was changed to match the original Japanese printing.

Dark Marik's Trap Cards and combos begin to slowly put pressure on Jonouchi, but he manages to make a comeback.

Featured Duel: Katsuya Jonouchi vs. Dark Marik[edit]

Duel continues from the previous chapter...

Turn 4: Dark Marik
Dark Marik Sets a card and Normal Summons "Gil Garth" (1800/1200) in Attack Position.

Turn 5: Jonouchi
Jonouchi's hand contains "Baby Dragon", "Graceful Dice" and an unknown card. Jonouchi draws "Jinzo". Jonouchi Normal Summons "Baby Dragon" (1200/700) in Defense Position and switches "Rocket Warrior" into Defense Position. During his Battle Phase, the effect of "Viser Des" allows it to attack "Panther Warrior". "Viser Des" is not destroyed due to its own effect and it reduces the ATK of "Panther Warrior" by its own ATK ("Panther Warrior": 1500 → 1000 ATK). The effect of "Helpoemer" then activates at the end of the Battle Phase, discarding a random card from Jonouchi's hand. Dark Marik activates the Permanent Trap Card "Coffin Seller", inflicting 700 damage to Jonouchi for every card sent to his Graveyard (Jonouchi: 4000 → 3300 LP).

Turn 6: Dark Marik
Dark Marik Sets two cards, including "Malevolent Catastrophe". Dark Marik Tributes "Gil Garth" to Tribute Summon "Legend Devil" (1800/1500) in Attack Position. For every turn "Legend Devil" remains in Attack Position, it will gain 700 ATK.

Turn 7: Jonouchi
Jonouchi activates his Set Spell Card, "Question". Both players must guess the top card of their opponent's Graveyard. If they are unable to guess their opponent's top card and that card is a monster, it will be Special Summoned. Jonouchi correctly guesses "Gil Garth", so it is not Special Summoned, but Dark Marik is unable to guess "Jinzo" as he did not see it get discarded to the Graveyard by the effect of "Helpoemer", so it is Special Summoned in Attack Position (2400/1500). The effect of "Jinzo" destroys all Trap Cards on the field, so "Coffin Seller" and "Malevolent Catastrophe" are both destroyed.

Duel continues in the next chapter...
