Rank-Down (ランクダウン Rankudaun), generally called "Xyz Change" (エクシーズ・チェンジ Ekushīzu Chenji), is a method used to Summon lower-Rank Xyz Monsters in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime. It was first seen in the Duel between Eliphas and Yuma Tsukumo, who used "Rank-Down-Magic Numeron Fall" to Rank Down "Number 39: Utopia" into "Number 39: Utopia Roots".[1] Later, Astral used "Rank-Down-Magic Hope Fall" to Summon "Utopia Roots" in his Duel against Yuma.[2] So far, Rank-Down hasn't proven to be a very useful mechanic, as " Number 39: Utopia Roots" is almost always useless except in the unlikely scenario that you control a rank 5 or higher Xyz Monster AND you control "Number 39: Utopia" AND you have a compatible "Rank-Down-Magic" Spell card in your hand.
