Machine monsters are powerful, and in some cases, fearsome to face in battle. They rely on high ATK as well as a variety of powerful effects, and they have some of the strongest Fusion Monsters in the OCG/TCG, that can be made even more powerful with the ATK-doubling ability of "Power Bond", "Cybernetic Zone", or "Limiter Removal". Most Machine monsters have DARK, EARTH, or LIGHT Attributes. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! (second series anime) first season, they have the special ability of immunity against all type of magic and Spellcaster attacks. Their general strategy varies, but they often have the ability to negate the effects of specific opposing cards and/or destroy them. Machine monsters also have two of their own Structure Decks, i.e. Machine Re-Volt and Machina Mayhem.

Ancient Gear Golem
"Ancient Gear Golem", a Machine monster.

Machine (かい Kikai) is a Type of Monster. It debuted in Vol.2 in OCG, Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon in the TCG, and Deck Mod Pack: Hyperspeed Rush Road!! in Rush Duel.

Overview[edit]

The Machine Type represents various machineries, including (but not limited to) robots, automata, androids, vehicles, and general-purpose machines. Many appear to be classical humanoid robots (such as "Machine King"), while some are completely life-like (such as "Amazement Assistant Delia"), and others yet are very geometric (such as "Shreddder"). Machines may also resemble non-human living beings, such as many members of the "Cyber" archetype being based on animals and creatures (mostly dragons). The majority of Machine monsters are EARTH, DARK, or LIGHT, although there are Machines for each of the six primary Attributes.

Machine monsters and their support are traditionally associated with pushing for extremely high ATK, with the effects of cards like "Power Bond", "Limiter Removal", or "Train Connection", but Machine as a whole covers a multitude of playstyles and effects, both offensive (e.g. Train) and defensive (e.g. "Orcust"). "Cyber Dragon", one of the most influential monsters in the history of the OCG/TCG metagame's development, is a Machine monster.

In the early parts of of the original manga and anime, Machine monsters inherently had the special ability of being immunite against all type of magic, including attacks from magic users. The card "Everlasting Alloy" was partly made in reference to this fact.
